Apo Island is a volcanic island covering 12 hectares in land area, 7 kilometers off the southeastern tip of Negros Island and 30 kilometers south of the Negros Oriental capital of Dumaguete City in the Philippines. The name “Apo” was derived from the a Filipino word which literally means, “Grandchild”.
Apo Island is one of the best diving sites in the whole world as thousands of tourists visited the island each year and is abundant of marine life especially the renowned sea turtles or pawikan. The beaches of Dauin is really beautiful and because of it's black sand and good geographical location, tourism industry in the town is boosting. Resorts is everywhere and different establishments arising in Shoreline Barangays from Bulak to Maayong Tubig. The Local Government is doing their best to protect the marine ecosystem of the Municipality and different marine sanctuary was established such examples are located in Masaplod Sur, Masaplod Norte and Poblacion.
